International Business Support

Businesses that export are responsible for 60% of national productivity growth – they are more innovative, employ more people and create the conditions to drive economic development. Changing attitudes and new business models are breaking down barriers to trading overseas and Serco Employment, Skills and Enterprise has been leading in the provision of specialist support to make this happen.

We have a long-standing reputation in boosting export activity. We delivered services for UK Trade & Investment, working closely with local partners. We also deliver innovative export services that use European funding to meet specific local needs – driving new employment and profitability.

More businesses and, importantly, more types of business are finding that exporting is providing the best chance to grow. At Serco Employment, Skills and Enterprise we believe that service and creative sector businesses, alongside manufacturers, need tailored assistance and that the best approach is to combine a strongly delivered national service with bespoke local support.

MainIntThis approach provides the advice and expertise to ensure established businesses exploit opportunities – especially those provided by emerging digital technology. This same technology – faster broadband, the internet and social media – in turn allows rural and agri-businesses to work collaboratively to sell internationally, and it helps build a supply chain of expertise that will provide the specialist services to future exporters. If supported by an investment in leadership and operational export skills, it is a combination that will grow our overseas trading base.

Exporting is fundamental to growth of the local economy – it can be innovatively applied to all development activity, but requires commitment to establish the sustainable skills and expertise to see this potential realised. We want to bring our expertise and knowledge to new partnerships – working together to unlock this potential and driving new levels of international trade.

“It is forecast that UK cross-border internet retail sales alone will be worth £28billion by 2020. With such encouraging statistics, it is vital that businesses receive specialist support to export their goods and services and stay one step ahead of the game.”
