The Superfast Broadband Business Support Programme (Superfast Business) was delivered between Summer 2013 and Spring 2015. It was designed to help businesses to understand and exploit the opportunities offered by new superfast broadband connections. The programme aimed to:

  • Engage businesses to stimulate innovative use of superfast broadband (SFBB) and collaboration between project participants
  • Provide general information on SFBB to all businesses
  • Provide specialist SFBB and ICT related information and support to businesses engaged with the service
  • Enable interaction with partners and suppliers
  • Collate subject and area specific knowledge to enable service development

Growth SMEs that met ERDF eligibility criteria, but all businesses could register on the website and access a range of information and resources.

Superfast Business encourages SMEs to adopt digital technology and faster broadband to help them grow. The service provided eligible businesses with a minimum 12 hours of intensive support incorporating:

  • Knowledge and information
  • Inspiring events and interactive resources
  • Expert business advisers
  • Specialists within-depth knowledge
  • Ongoing support through the Knowledge Hub

The Support Delivered

Although the business support package offered by each of our partners differed and we responded to the varied needs of businesses wherever possible, the core components of support were:SFB_Future_Benefits_1

  • Animation events to help businesses understand how they can use superfast broadband
  • An initial business assessment to check if businesses were eligible for support
  • A business diagnostic and action planning session to help businesses identify their support needs
  • The offer of specialist support through 1 to 1 or workshop sessions on topics that respond to action plan needs
  • Access to online resources, including guides to using superfast enabled technologies

Our Achievements


  • Established a valuable source of information through our Knowledge Hub, which has been accessed by 27,000 businesses
  • Assisted 955 businesses (offering a minimum of 12 hours support) from across a range of sectors
  • Supported nearly 1,800 businesses at events
  • Delivered 1 to 1 advisory support to more than 1,200 businesses
  • Supported 793 businesses through specialist workshops
  • Provided superfast broadband information to over 31,000 businesses, greatly raising awareness of infrastructure availability and applications
